Nineteen78 seeks Drummer/Cajon Player/Percussionist (Amsterdam)

Nineteen78 is looking for a funky drummer/cajon/percussion player to round out our band (alas our former drummer has too many other commitments). We seek to bring the incredibly creative, rebellious, infectious, analogue musical vibe of the late 1970s to life, with a focus on funk, disco, new wave, and everything in-between, a mix of covers with originals in similar genres (original compositions can be found in the link below). Think of pioneering bands like the Funkadelic, Heatwave, Talking Heads, and Chic. We play in an electric incarnation (bass, guitar, drums, keyboards) as warranted, but also love to go acoustic (distinguished by the deployment of a banjo and a ukelele bass along with the cajon)! A drummer who loves to sing (harmonies) is an enormous plus. Familiarity with other genres like reggae, latin, and worldmusic is also a plus. We take pride in playing well (no beginners or players inexperienced in funk/soul please), but having a good social time--together and with our audience--is equally important. Age: no restrictions, but be forewarned that some of us are old enough to remember 1978 😉. Location: Amsterdam/Haarlem. Rehearsal weekly (or every two weeks or so once we’ve got the repertoire down). The intention is to get back to playing clubs, cafes, festivals and--weather permitting—boulevards and parks. If this music is your scene let's hear from you! Nederlands ook gesproken.
